Liechtenstein vs Scotland
EURO 2012 Qualification, Group I
Date : 8.October 2011 - 19:30 CET
Stadium : Rheinpark Stadion - Vaduz.
On Saturday, 8th October at 19:30 (CET), Liechtenstein will host Scotland at the Rheinpark Stadion for Euro 2012 Group I qualification. If the visitors secure three points, they would likely jump to 2nd place in Group I.
The small country of Liechtenstein has a population of just over 35,000 but has still managed to cause a fair number of surprises in the footballing world. 2004's home draw with Portugal (2-2) likely goes down as the national team's greatest achievement, but they also gave Scotland quite a scare last year. Liechtenstein managed to hold the Scots at 1-1 until the 97th minute when a headed corner kick finally gave the home side the breakthrough they were seeking (final score 2-1). Many of the country's players play in the Swiss Super League and have managed a win and a draw so far in Group I.
Craig Levein knows he must orchestrate a win this weekend to give his nation a chance at qualifying for Euro 2012. Scotland are currently in 3rd place with 8 points, just behind Czech Republic (10 points) and Spain (18 points). The Czechs are at home to the defending champions on Friday and will hope to secure their qualification with a win. Whatever the result, Scotland's players and countrymen alike will accept nothing less than three points in Liechtenstein. The big question is whether or not Darren Fletcher, the in-form midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, will be healthy in time for the match.
