BUNDESLIGA,-  Hamburg recorded a crucial away win over Freiburg to move to joint 16th position in the Bundesliga table. The guests started the match the better side of the two and needed only 12 minutes to break the deadlock. The Freiburg defence allowed Heung-Min Son too much space and the South Korean gifted HSV the lead with his third league goal of the season. Freiburg then took over the initiative a bit and the inevitable Papiss Cisse restored parity shortly after the break with a good finish. Nevertheless, Hamburg would take all three points home courtesy of substitute Ivo Ilicevic. The Croatian came off the bench in the 66th minute and found the net only seven minutes later after being set up by Gokhan Tore. Cisse should have made it 2-2 in the closing stages of the game, but the prolific attacker failed to convert a spot kick in the 81st minute.

Kaiserslautern emerged from a feisty encounter that saw both sides lose a man to emerge with a shock 2-1 victory over Schalke. After an end-to-end first half, Schalke keeper Ralf Fahrmann received his marching orders for felling the onrushing Dorge Kouemaha, leaving Christian Tiffert to put the visitors ahead. Shalke fought back following the loss of the goalkeeper, however. Jermaine Jones, on as a half-time substitute for Lewis Holtby, forced a spectacular save from Kevin Trapp with a ferocious effort, before Schalke were awarded a penalty of their own. Rodnei pulled back Jose Jurado, receiving a red card in the process, leaving Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to level the score. But with less than 20 minutes remaining, Kouemaha put the visitors back in front, sending a looping header over Lars Unnerstall. The Cameroonian’s strike proved enough for his side to come away from Gelsenkirchen with the unlikeliest of victories, and one that sees them rise to 14th – out of the relegation zone.

Andre Schurrle struck a leveller for Bayer Leverkusen to give them a 2-2 draw away to Borussia Monchengladbach this afternoon. Sidney Sam spurned a great chance for the visitors, but last season's runners-up weren't made to wait long for the breakthrough, with Stefan Reinartz tapping the resulting corner home from close range. The goal, however, only served as inspiration for the hosts, who came back with a volley of chances, with Marco Reus eventually getting his side back on level terms after rounding the keeper after 65 minutes. Things went from bad to worse for Leverkusen, with Gonzalo Castro receiving his marching orders, and Patrick Herrmann then put the hosts back in front with a deft chip into the net. It looked as though Leverkusen would be heading for their fourth defeat of the season, but in the dying minutes, Andre Schurrle netted a spectacular equaliser with a 20-yard screamer that flew into the top corner.

A goal in each half from Lukas Podolski was enough for Koln to defeat Hannover, who suffered their second defeat of the season in the RheinEnergieStadion clash. Podolski opened the scoring half way through the first period with a sublime free-kick which beat the sprawling Ron-Robert Zieler. Koln had chances to add to their lead, and Stale Solbakken’s men were almost punished for their wastefulness with 20 minutes remaining.Lars Stindl pulled the ball back to Sergio Pinto who drove the ball home from the edge of the box, only to see the lineman controversially rule the strike out for offside. Podolski made the points safe with five minutes remaining with a fierce left-footed strike after a partially-cleared corner, ensuring the hosts closed the gap on their opponents to just two points.
